Knitting for King and Country

Ampthill women supported the war effort…

In WWI local women grouped together and used their skills to make garments, favours and comforts for the British troops at the front and who were convalescing. Examples of their work included woollen socks, mitts and hospital garments. Other volunteers helped to staff the three Red Cross V.A.D. Hospitals in Ampthill.
